Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland is the world’s #1 golfer after his tournament on Sunday, proving his worth as an Audemars Piguet ambassador. After claiming the PGA Championship title at the notorious Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, South Carolina, McIlroy strapped on his Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore and received the famous Rodman Wanamaker trophy, inscribed with the name of all previous winners. The trophy is McIlroy’s until next year, when he must return it to the tournament.
The PGA Championship marks McIlroy’s second major title after winning the U.S. Open in 2011. People are already comparing him to Tiger Woods. Tiger was four months older than McIlroy when he won his first title; however, McIlroy entered the pro circuit at a younger age than Tiger. Should McIlroy continue on this path, his will be a career to watch.
McIlroy sported the Royal Oak Offshore for a press conference after his victory. The watch stood prominently on his bare wrist.
Audemars Piguet has yet to officially acknowledge McIlroy’s victory on their website – which is strange, considering they immediately congratulated LeBron James after the NBA Championships. Perhaps that’s because the latter was unable to receive an Hublot watch like the rest of the Miami Heat?
