Star Wars: The Saga Continues
This Friday, fans of one of film’s most popular series will flock to theatres for the next installment in the Star Wars movie saga: The Last Jedi. In the first film of the sequel trilogy, The Force Awakens, actor Mark Hamill reprised his role as Luke Skywalker for the first time since Return of the Jedi in 1983. This year, The Last Jedi will mark another significant moment for Star Wars devotees as they celebrate the last film in the series to feature the iconic Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. 2017 also marks the 40th anniversary of the Star Wars franchise.
To commemorate this monumental anniversary and the upcoming film, we got to thinking about some of the most memorable characters throughout the Star Wars films and what watches they might wear in a galaxy far, far away.
Han Solo
A man like Han Solo would need a watch that’s rugged and can withstand harsh conditions, whether he’s piloting the Millennium Falcon, getting into gun fights in cantinas, or escaping trash compactors. Although no watch could ever replace his faithful confidante, Chewy, the Breitling Navitimer World GMT would come in as a close second. This watch is like a miniature computer for pilots with a 24-hour dial to help spacemen like Han Solo distinguish between day and night.
Chewbacca
Han Solo’s sidekick and loyal companion Chewbacca would needs a multi-purpose watch. It would serve him not only when he’s fighting the Empire but also when he returns home to his family on the forests of Kashyyyk. The Graham Chronofighter Oversize Black Arrow Celsius would make the perfect watch for Chewy. With its camouflaged face and oversized 47mm case, this watch was built for military combat and is just as dependable as Chewy himself.
Darth Vader
Even a Sith Lord like Darth Vader could use a watch to help him battle the rebel forces. It could be tough to find a watch that would live up to his high standards of precision and accuracy, but the Omega Dark Side of the Moon Pitch Black just might do the trick. This space-age model features an all-ceramic case coupled with zirconium dioxide for optimum resistance to scratches. It also resists exposure to UV radiation and acids. Plus, the all-black color scheme pairs perfectly with Darth Vader’s ominous appearance.
Princess Leia
If Princess Leia wore a watch it’d have to be fit for royalty and ready for rebel strikes. The Cartier Pasha brings together the perfect balance of elegance and durability. With a design similar to army watches of the time and the sophistication of Cartier, this bold watch would be just the right accent for Leia’s wrist.
Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker is the ultimate intergalactic adventurer. His watch would need to be reliable in his X-wing, but still hold up to the deserts of Tatooine or the swamps of Dagobah. The Rolex Explorer embodies Luke’s clean cut look while offering the functions any thrill-seeker needs, like an easy-to-read dial even in the dark depths of the galaxy.
Yoda
Although Yoda appears old and frail at first glance, he’s unexpectedly nimble when duty calls. This wise old soul might wear a watch like the Audemars Piguet Edward Piguet Perpetual Calendar—with such a long lifespan, he’ll need a perpetual calendar to keep track of the years. Plus, the defining characteristic of the Edward Piguet collection is extreme attention to detail. We think Yoda himself would appreciate this.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi is a simple, no-frills kind of guy. But as he lives out his later life in seclusion, he could certainly use the trusty companionship of a watch. We suspect the minimalist Patek Philippe Calatrava might be the ideal match for Obi-Wan. The Calatrava is a simple, classic, time-only watch, ideal for a man who doesn’t need any additional bells and whistles. Anything too flashy might attract the attention of the Sand People.
Boba Fett
When you’re the most dangerous bounty-hunter in the galaxy, you need a watch that’s durable enough to stand the most adverse conditions. That’s why you might find Boba Fett wearing a Breitling Emergency Mission. Although this villain is infamously hard to kill, you never know when he might need to send out a distress signal. Plus, we know Boba wouldn’t skimp on the bells and whistles, and the Emergency Mission has plenty. It wouldn’t be hard to imagine a special edition with a rocket launcher attachment.
Storm Troopers
The Stormtroopers, operating within the Imperial Army , wear iconic black body suits covered in white armor made of plastoid. Their suits have a variety of temperature controls and survival equipment to help them withstand and survive most environments. Their uniformity lends itself perfectly to a Bell & Ross Aviation BR03-92. These watches are tough. They also have luminescent hands and markers with large numbers – making them easy to read through a helmet.
R2D2 and C-3p0
For us at C&C, the jury was hung. Would R2-D2 and C-3P0 even wear watches? If so, what would it be? You decide and let us know in the comments!
