Dominic Thiem is an Austrian professional tennis player ranked No. 4 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in 2019. This makes him the second highest ranked Austrian player in the history of the sport behind former world No. 1 Thomas Muster. Though he’s only twenty-five years old, Thiem has played at the professional level for eight years. The up and coming athlete has yet to score his first Grand Slam win. However, many predict he’ll continue to rise in the ranks and become a successor to one of the members of the Big Four (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray).
Early Years
Thiem first began training for a career in tennis at the young age of nine. Just before turning pro in 2011, he reached the world No. 2 ranking on the International Tennis Federation’s Junior Circuit. That same season, he made it to the French Open Boys final. Though he officially embarked on his professional career later that year, he wouldn’t play his first ATP final until 2014.
Professional Career
After a few years getting his feet wet at the professional level, Thiem started making strides. In 2016, he reached the semifinals of a major for the first time at the French Open. As a result, he made his debut inside the ATP’s top ten as world No. 7. The next season, he cracked the top five and rose to world No. 4. Since then, Thiem has made it to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open in 2018 and the finals at the French Open in both 2018 and 2019, losing to the legendary Nadal on both occasions.
So, What Watch Does Dominic Thiem Wear?
When Thiem broke the top ten, Rolex took notice. They added him to their ranks of ambassadors shortly after in 2017. Since then, the promising athlete has started accumulating a number of Rolex models. Sometimes, he keeps it classic with a timeless option like the Submariner. He typically opts for a straightforward stainless steel variation with a black dial and bezel. However, it also seems the Daytona is a particular favorite of Thiem’s. Here, he goes for a chronograph iteration with a ceramic construction and sleek, black dial. In addition to sporting Rolex models, Thiem is the face of one of the brand’s latest ad campaigns. Rolex prominently features the tennis pro as an exemplary story of perpetual excellence. The commercial further illustrates the brand’s faith in the player and support of rising stars in the sport of tennis.
