Hall of Fame Rocker and avid watch collector Eric Clapton has recently put his rare Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph ref. 2499 up for auction at Christie’s. This Patek Philippe is only one of two ref. 2499 ever made in platinum and the only one to be sold to the public. The other ref. 2499 in the pair in housed in a museum in Geneva. Maybe he needs to give a little oxygen to his bank account after spending about that amount in a special order Ferrari he just got it delivered a few weeks ago.

I’ve come across a few news articles discussing the fact that Clapton is auctioning off his Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, but none of them are actually saying “why” he is doing so. Is it for charity? I know that he’s a watch collector, so why sell off what may be the finest piece in his collection?
