Baseball and luxury watches don’t usually go hand-in-hand. Mickey Mantle once took baseball practice with a Timex strapped to his bat to show its durability, and Randy Johnson has a Ulysse Nardin watch coming out, but it’s rare to see a luxury watch on the diamond. That’s why the Rolex Submariner on Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson caught our eye.
While the Braves swept the Nationals at Turner Field this weekend, Nationals manager Davey Johnson beat Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez in the watch department. Davey Johnson wears a Rolex Submariner – and I could’ve sworn I saw different variations. He appeared to sport a stainless steel on Friday, and an all-gold one last night. The pictures below tell the tale of a classic two-tone, though, so perhaps it was just the lighting.
Here are some of the best pictures of Johnson and his watch. It’s a sight to see him point with his Submariner when arguing with the ump or watching the Nats from the dugout. The Nationals currently enjoy a 5 1/2 game lead over the Braves in the NL East.
