Masters Tournament Watches 2018

Last week, the first of golf’s four major tournaments kicked off at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Established over eight decades ago in 1934, the Masters marks the start of the professional season. This particular tournament is best known for its iconic green jacket tradition that was established in 1949. The winning golfer gets to treasure the prestigious green jacket for a year before returning it to the clubhouse in Augusta to hang honorably among those of past victors.

The distinctive green jacket is not the only accessory of note at the annual Masters tournament. A statement timepiece is another essential component to any pro golfer’s ensemble. The sport of golf and the watch industry have a longstanding history with strong ties that continue today. Even the up-and-coming generation of young golfers have found a watch to be a loyal companion off the course. Here, we’ll take a look at some of the top performers from this year’s Masters and their watches.

Patrick Reed

At this year’s Masters, 27-year old Patrick Reed took home the coveted green jacket for his first major tournament victory. Like most golfers, Reed doesn’t wear a watch during play, so we can’t quite say that his Hublot helped him bring home the win. However, between sinking his final putt and donning the green jacket at the trophy ceremony, he proudly strapped a watch on his wrist. The Hublot ambassador chose to sport the Big Bang Ferrari White Ceramic Carbon as he claimed his prize.

Rickie Fowler

This year’s runner up, Rickie Fowler, has become known for his bold style on and off the course. He quickly went from a Rolex ambassador to a Rolex super fan, boasting an impressive collection of nearly a dozen models at the young age of 29. The Milgauss appears to be his favorite model, with an impressive three in his collection. He’s also got a few Submariners, a Datejust, a Daytona, a Deep Sea, and a Cosmograph Daytona, just to name a few.

Jordan Spieth

Jordan Spieth is no stranger to the Masters tournament or the iconic green jacket. He took home a victory back in 2015 at the young age of 21, becoming the second youngest champion in history. Spieth is also a Rolex ambassador. When he claimed his win, he sported an Explorer II. However, he’s also been spotted with a Daytona.

Rory McIlroy

Though he was very close in 2012, Irish pro golfer Rory McIllroy hasn’t landed a victory at the Masters yet. Still, he considers his watch to be his good luck charm. McIlroy has been an OMEGA ambassador for several years. One of his favorite models is the Aqua Terra GMT. He was also given a Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m after winning the 2014 PGA championship. However, the most recent addition to his collection is the Seamaster Aqua Terra Golf.

Jon Rahm

Spanish pro golfer Jon Rahm was one of the youngest competitors at this year’s Masters Tournament at the age of 23. Along with his fellow competitors Speith and Fowler, Rahm is part of the Rolex New Guard. This elite group of burgeoning young athletes represent the new generation of golfers and watch collectors. Rahm’s Rolex of choice is a Daytona.

Bubba Watson

Bubba Watson is another veteran of the Masters. He’s won the tournament not once but twice, first in 2012 and again in 2014. Watson is one of few golfers who chooses to sport his watch both on and off the course. He’s a Richard Mille ambassador, and during his most recent win in 2014, he wore an RM038. The watch was specifically designed for him and only produced in a limited quantity of 50 pieces. It has since been dubbed the Bubba Watson Victory watch. Although Watson did sport the good luck charm at this year’s Masters, it didn’t bring him a third victory.

Henrik Stenson

Swedish pro golfer Henrick Stenson is one of the most seasoned players at this year’s Masters. He’s played on the professional tour since 1999, when some of his fellow competitors were still in diapers. Stenson is an Audemars Piguet ambassador. You can most often find him sporting a Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph.
