Top Celebrities and their Watches Part 2

Celebrities play an important role in the watch industry. Whether they’re in character or off screen, we can’t help but notice the watches they wear. Brands know the power of a good celebrity endorsement. Some celebrities even serve as brand ambassadors, while others are genuine watch collectors with a personal passion for fine timepieces. However, most of us don’t necessarily care why a celebrity is sporting a particular brand. We just know that an accessory has a certain allure when we see it on one of our favorite actors, musicians, or athletes. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of our favorite celebrities and their watches.

Celebrities and their Watches:

Ryan Seacrest grew from a local radio DJ in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia to one of the most successful entertainers in the country. He’s hosted some of the most popular programs, from American Idol to the annual TV special Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin Eve, the radio program American Top 40, and, most recently, Live with Kelly and Ryan. Over the years, he’s invested his hard-earned paychecks in a number of watches. He’s primarily known as a vintage Rolex collector, most often wearing a Daytona Ref. 6263 “Big Red.” However, he’s also been spotted in a Panerai Luminor.

Jeff Bridges

You may forever think of Jeff Bridges as “The Dude.” It’s hard to separate him from his iconic and beloved character from The Big LebowskiI. However, this Academy Award winning actor was born into a Hollywood family and developed a taste for watches early on. His father, Lloyd Bridges was a Rolex man, and he passed the tradition on to his son. Jeff Bridges inherited his affinity for the Submariner from his dad. He’s got several variations in his collection from stainless steel to two tone to yellow gold. You’ll find him sporting his collection both off camera and on screen.

Ellen DeGeneres

Like many comedians, Ellen DeGeneres got her start doing standup. She got her big break in the 1980’s when she scored a spot on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, being the first female comic to do so. Since, then, she thrives as a comedian, entertainer, and role model for women and members of the LGBT community. Like other powerhouse figures, she’s a Rolex woman, with a collection of both vintage and modern timepieces. The Daytona is her favorite model, but her collection includes a number of others, like a Yacht-Master and a President.

JJ Redick

The basketball world took note of JJ Redick early on in his college career when he landed the player of the year award two consecutive years in 2005 and 2006. He began his career in the NBA with the Orlando Magic and currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers. While many athletes tend toward bold, modern, and sometimes flashier timepieces, Redick has a refined taste that feels wise beyond his years. His collection contains pieces like the F.P. Journe Chronometre Bleu, IWC Portuguese, Vacheron Constantin 1921 U.S. Boutique edition, and Patek Philippe 5170G.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway is a native New Yorker whose career began at a young age. She’s starred in an array of films, from children’s to adult features, including The Princess Diaries, The Devil Wears Prada, and Love and Other Drugs. In 2012, she married jewelry designer Adam Shulman, who has helped her to refine her tastes. However, her appreciation for watches began long before that. Her first watch disappeared while filming one of her movies, but she still has the one her parents gave her for her graduation. More recent additions to her collection include feminine pieces, like a Piaget and a Cartier.

Aziz Ansari

Aziz Ansari grew up in South Carolina and knew he wanted to be a comedian early on. When he moved to New York City for college, he began doing standup. Soon after, he started hosting a comedy night at the famous Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater. This inspired the MTV comedy series beginning in 2007, leading to his big break on Parks and Recreation in 2009. Ansari may not seem like your typical watch collector or Rolex man. Somewhere along the way, he caught the watch bug. His collection consists primarily of vintage pieces, like a Rolex Explorer ref 1016, Rolex Day-Date with Onyx Dial, and a Pre-Daytona Ref. 6234.

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron persevered through a tough and traumatic upbringing in a rural town in South Africa to become one of the most prominent actresses of our time. A career in modeling and later dance brought her to New York City. After suffering a severe knee injury, she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting instead. Now, the Academy Award winning actress enjoys her success with one loyal companion by her side: her Rolex. The stunningly feminine Theron opts for a more masculine model, the 44mm Deepsea.

Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran began pursuing music when he was just a teenager and landed a No. 1 hit on the iTunes charts before he ever signed with a record label. Now, the Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter has saturated pop culture around the globe. He’s had numerous hit songs like Thinking Out Loud or The Shape of You and made guest appearances in shows like Game of Thrones. At the young age of just 27, Sheeran already has an impressive watch collection, comprised of brands like Rolex, IWC, Hublot, Patek Philippe, and Richard Mille.

Danica Patrick

Danica Patrick knew she was destined to race at a young age. She dropped out of high school to focus on her career full time and signed a contract with Rahal Letterman Racing at age twenty. Just three years later in 2005, she became the first woman to lead the Indy 500, and in 2013 she became the first woman to win the pole position at the Daytona 500. Though her racing career may be over after retiring in May 2018, she’ll likely continue pursuing her passion for watches. Her brand of choice is Tissot.

Jose Bautista

Jose Bautista caught the attention of the baseball world early on. Just six years into his professional career, he became the 26th member of the 50 home run club while playing for the Toronto Blue Jays. Since this amazing feat, he continues to hit at least twenty home runs each year. To celebrate his MLB success, Bautista has invested some of his hard earned paychecks into his childhood passion: watches. Audemars Piguet and Panerai are two of his favorite brands, with models like the Royal Oak Offshore, Luminor, and Radiomir. The diversity of his collection spans to other models as well, like the Chopard Mille Miglia, Bell & Ross BR 01-92 Gold, Calibre de Cartier, and the Hublot Oceanographic 4000M Diver.

Mario Andretti

Mario Andretti is a racing legend. He continued to be one of the most successful, celebrated, and influential drivers in the field up until the final decade of his career in the 1980’s. After over 30 years as a professional racer, Andretti retired in 1994 and has since been inducted into multiple halls of fame and been named the “Driver of the Century.” His uncle gave him his first timepiece, a Fischer wristwatch, while his family was still living in a refugee camp in Italy. During his racing days, he would take a briefcase of several watches so he could switch out different models. Many of them he received as gifts, like multiple Heuer Autavia models, a Tissot Lotus, Rolex Daytona, or one of his most prized timepieces, his 1967 Gold Heuer Carrera Pilot, just to name a few.
