The Longines That Went to War

Regardless of its position in the market today, the Longines of old was really something, and there’s little dispute about the fact that the company has made some really great watches. It was one of the first to introduce a true pilot’s watch in early decades of the 20th century, and throughout its history, Longines has shared a close relationship with various military organizations.

The Longines SS Czech Aviator watch was built to survive the elements. It boasts exceptional strength, superior accuracy, and an indomitable look and feel. However, what is most remarkable about the Czech Aviator is not found in its array of features and functions. It’s found in its rich place in history. Between the two world wars, numerous watch brands supplied timekeeping tools to military forces. This model was initially produced for Czech aviators before, during, and after WWII. Longines became known for these types of exceptional pilot’s watches. Whether on the front lines of war or in the day-to-day battles in life, this watch’s ability to withstand the test of time is a testament to its superior craftsmanship and durability.

Longines began as a modest, family-owned watch manufacturer over a century ago in 1832. Over the decades, as new generations rose to the forefront of the company, the business grew and flourished. This allowed the brand to garner a variety of partnerships, such as that with the British military. This model, the Longines SS Greenlander British Military circa 1949 is particularly coveted among collectors. It prominently features the British military broad arrow logo on the watch dial. In addition, it has a variety of functions like luminous numbers and markers with luminous spade hands for seamless visibility even in complete darkness.
