Skeleton Watches For Halloween

Skeleton Watches Reminiscent of the Halloween Season

Skeleton watches are arguably some of the most visually interesting models on the market. To create these unique designs, watchmakers reveal the inner workings through the dial by stripping it to the essentials. You might be surprised to learn that these often futuristic-looking models date all the way back to the eighteenth century. A watchmaker named Andre-Charles Caron invented the concept in 1760. He then realized he could pique customers’ interests by displaying more of the mechanism. This desire to marvel at the intricate inner workings of our watches and to better understand them continues today. In fact, skeleton watches have experienced a resurgence in popularity over the past several years. What better time to celebrate them than Halloween! In anticipation of the holiday, we’re putting the spotlight on this one-of-a-kind style. Here, we’ve showcased some of the standout skeleton watches in our inventory.

Zenith El Primero Skeleton Tribute to the Rolling Stones Special Edition

In 2014, Zenith became the official watch of the Rolling Stones. Since then, the brand has released a number of special edition models celebrating the legendary rock band. In 2016, they unveiled the El Primero Skeleton Tribute to the Rolling Stones in a limited run of just 250 pieces. The monochromatic case and skeletonized dial provide the perfect backdrop for the iconic red Rolling Stones logo to pop. Though this is the most notable nod to the band, the model incorporates a couple of other unique touches. The same logo is featured on the rotor, which you can see through the display caseback. In addition, the design of the hour and minute hands draws inspiration from the neck of a 1950s Fender Telecaster.

OMEGA Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8

On December 21, 1968, Apollo 8 reached the elusive dark side of the moon. In honor of the 50th anniversary of this important mission, OMEGA released a special Speedmaster. The Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 still incorporates several features of the Dark Side of the Moon Speedys. It comes equipped with a ceramic case and similar dial layout. However, this Apollo 8 edition gets some special upgrades. First, it features a semi-skeletonized dial, which incorporates a laser illustration of the moon’s surface along with open working. Through the dial and display caseback, we see OMEGA’s Caliber 1861 hand-wound chronograph movement, the same used by Apollo 8.

Breitling Bentley GMT Lightbody

Since 2002, Breitling and the illustrious Bentley Motors have partnered together to design collaborative timepieces. In 2014, they debuted the GMT Lightbody. As the name suggests, the model embodies the “light” motif in both design and aesthetic. First, the watch features a lightweight titanium construction and rubber strap. Then, the dial gets an airy design with a unique skeletonized pattern. Using concentric circles, Breitling applies a truly one-of-a-kind take on a skeleton dial in the Bentley GMT Lightbody. Through this open-worked dial and the display caseback, you can view the brand’s Caliber B04 self-winding mechanical movement.

TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 01 Chronograph

In 2015, TAG Heuer launched the first Carrera Heuer 01 Chronograph. The model marked an important moment for the brand. It was the first major product launch under the leadership of Jean-Claude Biver. It also established an entirely new direction for the iconic Carrera collection. As stated in the name, one of the components that sets this model apart is the Heuer 01 manufacture automatic chronograph movement. What differentiates the Heuer 01 from the brand’s Caliber 1887 is in fact the skeletonization of the movement itself. This includes a skeleton date disc and a skeleton “quantieme” plate. Additionally, TAG Heuer goes on to highlight this movement through a skeletonized dial.

Hublot Spirit of Big Bang

In 2014, Hublot put a new spin on their popular Big Bang model with the Spirit of Big Bang. The name really says it all. The model captures the spirit of the legendary Big Bang but, notably, in an entirely new case shape. Instead of the iconic octagonal design, the Spirit of Big Bang gets a tonneau construction. Like the Carrera Heuer 01 Chrono, we also get double skeletonization with the Spirit of Big Bang. Inside, the watch is equipped with Hublot’s Caliber HUB 4700 self-winding mechanical movement. The HUB 4700 is actually a modified and skeletonized version of the famous Zenith El Primero movement. You can see it in all its glory through the skeleton dial and display caseback.

Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX 5 V12 Vantage World Chronograph Limited Edition

In 2010, Jaeger-LeCoultre added the World Chronograph to its AMVOX line in a limited run of just 300 pieces. The brand integrates elements of the prestigious Aston Martin into the model in a number of ways. One of the most prominent is in the skeletonization. The design of the open-worked dial features a grid motif reminiscent of the radiator grill of an Aston Martin. However, what truly sets this model apart more than its skeletonized dial is the new world time mechanism. The complication perfectly frames the skeleton dial, which showcases the brand’s Caliber 752 self-winding mechanical movement.
