Rocker Eric Clapton Puts Rare Patek Philippe Up for Auction

Hall of Fame Rocker and avid watch collector Eric Clapton has recently put his rare Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph ref. 2499 up for auction at Christie’s. This Patek Philippe is only one of two ref. 2499 ever made in platinum and the only one to be sold to the public. The other ref. 2499 in the pair in housed in a museum in Geneva. We’re sure collectors will be going crazy over this rare timepiece! Clapton is known to have collected many luxury watches over the years, including an extensive assortment of Rolexes in addition to several Patek Philippe’s. The auction will he held at the Four Seasons on November 12th in Geneva and is expected to sell for $4.3 million!

 

 

Eric Clapton is the only artist to be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame three times. His watch collection should go in a hall of fame, too – here are several watches from Eric Clapton’s collection:

  • Maybe he needs to give a little oxygen to his bank account after spending about that amount in a special order Ferrari he just got it delivered a few weeks ago.

  • I've come across a few news articles discussing the fact that Clapton is auctioning off his Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, but none of them are actually saying "why" he is doing so. Is it for charity? I know that he's a watch collector, so why sell off what may be the finest piece in his collection?
