Oris was first established in Holstein, Switzerland in 1904. The brand was an instant success and soon emerged as a prominent local business as well as a leading presence in the watch industry. Like any company, they’ve incurred their ups and downs over the years. However, through it all, they’ve continued to produce some of the most remarkable timepieces on the market. Today, we’ve rounded up a few of those iconic Oris models that have come to define the brand and solidify their reputation as one of the most significant watchmakers in the industry.

Aquis Date

 

Oris’s Aquis collection is comprised of sturdy, robust, and high-performance dive watches. The models draw inspiration from the brand’s Full Steel line of tool watches from the late 1990’s. For more serious or professional divers, there’s a modern, oversized, 43.50mm variation. Alternatively, for those looking for a watch that’s equally ideal for everyday wear on land and sea, there’s a more modest 39.50mm version.

Artelier Complication

Oris has largely made a name for itself as a producer of superior tool watches, including diver’s watches and pilot’s watches. However, the brand also has an impressive collection of dress watches called the Artelier. Oris first introduced the line in 2003. This series of sophisticated and timeless watches showcase some of the brand’s most innovative and highly developed calibers. With the elegant and complex Artelier collection, Oris also helped pioneer a whole new concept in watchmaking: affordable luxury.

Artix Date

Oris’s Artix family of watches is one of the brand’s more straightforward and classic designs. While the Artix Date does feature a date complication at the six-o’clock position, the model still boasts a more timeless and simple design. One of the most striking characteristics of the model is its dial. It features a distinctive two-zone arrangement with spiral grooving and traditional galvanic enhancement, giving it a unique sense of depth.

Pro Diver Pointer Moon

The Pro Diver Pointer Moon represents Oris’s range of watchmaking skill. This model is the first mechanical watch to include functions for indicating both the lunar cycle and tidal range. The Pro Diver Pointer Moon is optimized for divers, eliminating the need to consult a manual for the lunar cycle or tidal range. These functions give the dial a particularly unique and utilitarian aesthetic.

TT1 Chronograph Red Circle

Oris has become known for its expansive line of tool watches. As a result of their efforts over the years, they proudly formed a partnership with the Williams Formula 1 racing team. To commemorate the iconic team and sport of racing, they created the TT1 Chronograph collection. The sporty model draws inspiration from the dashboard of a racecar with the layout of the chronograph registers. It features a modern, oversized, 45mm stainless steel case and black gasket with a red accent circling the bezel. A rubber strap is fixed directly to the case for a close, comfortable fit.

Big Crown Original Pointer Date

Oris first debuted their unique pointer date function in the Big Crown collection in 1938. The inventive mechanism showcased a center hand with an arrow pointing to the date along the outside periphery of the dial. Today, this innovative feature has become the brand’s signature complication. Oris has revived this iconic model and function in a vintage-style pilot’s watch. It houses an all new automatic Sellita movement, equipped with the brand’s signature red rotor.

Classic Date

Oris’s sport watches often take center stage. However, the brand’s Classic Collection highlights the brand’s diverse aptitude for watchmaking. As the name indicates, the family of watches embodies the style of a quintessential dress watch. Yet, Oris incorporates some subtle details to make the collection their own. One of the most notable is the striking guilloche patterned chapter ring with applied double edged hour markers.
