How To File A Claim With Hodinkee Insurance

What you should know to expedite your claims process.

The world can be an intimidating place. It can sometimes feel like the rest of the world is out of control, and there’s no way to protect ourselves from getting caught up in the tumultuous current. Plus, turning on the news these days to stories of inflation doesn’t help anxiety. But we’re watch lovers, right?

In my experience, watch collectors tend to be logical, rational, and will go the extra mile to do their homework. And in the small-scale world of collectible watches, there’s no better bulwark against the chaos outside than quality insurance – when life gets in the way of you enjoying your watches, HODINKEE Insurance’s straightforward claims process makes it simple for you to get back on track. No one enjoys losing, or damaging a watch – or being stolen from – which is why our digital-first product eliminates paperwork and streamlines the claims experience.

Well, what if you’re diving in Bonaire with your Tudor Pelagos FXD and it somehow falls into the deep blue? Or what happens if you accidentally drop your Cartier Tank on the subway platform (ouch!), or – pray tell – misplace your Speedmaster while on vacation? In all those instances, a valuable articles insurance may provide coverage; you’ll likely be glad you thought ahead and purchased it, in the event of a loss. HODINKEE Insurance, underwritten by Chubb, provides worldwide coverage against most types of loss to insured watches with no deductible, and filing a claim with Chubb is – as one of our clients recently told me – “smooth and easy.”

Filing a claim is painless, but there are two things you should be ready to provide when reporting your claim:

  1. You’ll want to file a police report and share a copy with the claims adjuster if a theft or a burglary is the cause of loss. If the watch disappeared or went missing – whether you know what happened to it or not – be prepared to cooperate closely with the claims adjuster to answer all possible questions so they can establish ownership and the timeline of the loss. Be prepared to provide any appraisals, invoices, or documentation on the watch in all instances.
  2. If your watch is accidentally damaged, your claims adjuster will advise you on next steps. Once a settlement is reached, Chubb will make every effort to issue payment within 48 hours. You can then work with the watchmaker or jeweler of your choice to have your watch repaired.

Go ahead – wear your watch. We’ve got your back.

Filing a claim with Chubb is seamless; you can report your claim 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, whether by phone or online. Chubb will make every effort to contact you within six hours of the time the claim is reported.

While insurance isn’t a substitute for your regular standard of care, it can be a safety net in a worst-case or disaster scenario. Remember, you’re a logical and rational individual, so you already know the best thing you can do: Walk, don’t run, and sign up for HODINKEE Insurance.

And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the HODINKEE Insurance Team at insurance@hodinkee.com.
