Emmy Nominees and Their Watches

Celebrity Watch Spotting Season

Award season officially kicked off in August with the Teen Choice Awards and MTV’s VMAs. Now, the annual Emmy Awards are upon us. The 2019 nominees for Lead Actor and Lead Actress seem to have a number of things in common. Many started in film, many have yet to win their first Emmy, and, of course, they’re each at the top of their craft. However, there’s one similarity you might not know. Quite a few of the 2019 nominees sport some pretty impressive watches on and off-screen – some are even collectors.

Nominees and the Watches They Wear On-Screen

House of Cards’ Robin Wright is up for her sixth Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Impeccable and carefully detailed costuming has always been at the core of the show. Wright’s character Claire Underwood is perfectly polished, and her look wouldn’t be complete without an equally refined watch. You can find her wearing a Cartier Tank.

2019 marks Anthony Anderson’s fifth year to receive a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. On his hit show Black-ish, his character Andre “Dre” Johnson has one signature watch. His model of choice is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph.

Viola Davis is also a five-time Emmy nominee. She’s received nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for both Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder. Her powerhouse character Annalise Keating is never without a powerful watch. She’s loyal to one model: the Cartier Tank Solo.

Don Cheadle is no stranger to the Primetime Emmys. He received his first nomination in 1999 for his portrayal of Sammy Davis Jr. in the made-for-TV film The Rat Pack. Since then, he’s been up for an impressive eight additional Emmy awards. In 2019, Cheadle is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy series for his work on Black Monday. Be sure to check out his wrist on the red carpet. He’s particularly fond of Audemars Piguet, from the Royal Oak Dual Time to the Millenary and Royal Oak Offshore. He also has a Patek Philippe Nautilus.

You might be surprised to learn that veteran actor Michael Douglas has never won an Emmy award. He got his start on TV back in the 70s as Steve Keller on The Streets of San Francisco. The success of the show launched him into his film career, which has spanned for over four decades. He continued to make a few TV guest appearances throughout his stint in film. However, it wasn’t until 2018 that he made his return to TV starring in The Kominsky Method. You might also be surprised to learn that Douglas is a bit of a one-watch man. Over the years, he’s been loyal to his Cartier Roadster.

Previously, Jason Bateman has received Emmy nominations for his work on both Arrested Development and Ozark. In 2019, he’s up for an impressive three nominations for Directing, Lead Acting, and Outstanding Drama Series. Bateman’s watch story is an interesting one. He’s not a collector per se but enjoyed rotating between a Rolex Sea-Dweller and a Franck Muller for many years. That was until he found his grail watch. Then, he traded them both for a vintage 1979 Rolex Daytona.

Sterling K. Brown is a two-time Emmy winner and three-time Emmy nominee. 2019 marks the third time he’s up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for This is Us. Whether on the red carpet or accepting an award, see if you can spot him in his IWC Spitfire.

Heartthrob Kit Harrington received his first Emmy nomination back in 2016 for Outstanding Supporting Actor. In 2019, he’s been upgraded to Outstanding Lead Actor for his portrayal of Jon Snow in the final season of Game of Thrones. The rising star has devoted some of those hard-earned paychecks to starting his watch collection. It currently consists of a Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie Automatic, an OMEGA Seamaster, and a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin.

Milo Ventimiglia is going head-to-head with his This is Us co-star Sterling K. Brown once again at the 2019 Emmys. Ventimiglia lost out to Brown back in 2017, and he’s looking for redemption. Still, he certainly has an upper hand over Brown when it comes to watches. Of all this year’s Lead Actor nominees, Ventimiglia is the largest collector. It includes a number of Rolex models, like a President, GMT Master, Oyster Perpetual Date, and vintage 1963 Day Date. He also has a couple OMEGA watches – a Speedmaster Professional and Speedmaster Reduced. In addition, he now owns his father’s vintage 1968 Seiko from his first of two tours in Vietnam.

Mahershala Ali has become famous for his outstanding performances and the watches he wears while accepting awards for them. He’s only up for his second-ever Emmy nomination. However, he’s a Golden Globe winner and two-time Oscar-winner. In 2019, he’s a front-runner in the Lead Actor in a Limited Series category for True Detective. So, we may very well see him debut a new watch while receiving his first Emmy. Previously, Ali wore an IWC DaVinci at the Academy Awards in 2017. Two year later, he sported a Santos de Cartier Skeleton at the 2019 Oscars.

Up against Ali is Sam Rockwell for his portrayal of the legendary Bob Fosse in Fosse/Verdon. This, along with the show’s nomination for Outstanding Limited Series, marks his first at the Emmys. However, Rockwell isn’t just competing with Ali in the category. He’s also famous for sporting an impressive watch at award shows. Rockwell is typically loyal to one brand: Rolex. We’ll have to see if he’s wearing his classic GMT Master II at the 2019 Emmys or if he opts to shake things up.
