A Letter From Our Founder, Hamilton Powell

Today, I have some very exciting news to share with you. After eight years of building the #1 solution for buying and selling pre-owned luxury watches, Crown & Caliber has been acquired by HODINKEE, ​the industry leader in the world of watches.

Back in 2015, HODINKEE’s founder Benjamin Clymer and I had discussed the idea of combining our two companies over dinner. At the time, neither company was ready, but the idea never faded. With mutual respect for each other over the years, the Crown & Caliber team has watched with great admiration as HODINKEE has become an undisputed leader ​in editorial content, and a formidable online retailer in its own right. ​Similarly, the HODINKEE team values the incredible customer service and trusted reputation Crown & Caliber has earned for buying and selling pre-owned watches. As we looked at the future of our businesses, we both realized we would benefit from each other’s strengths.

So, what does this mean for you, our community?

Well, in the near term, you’ll continue to receive the excellent level of customer service you’ve come to expect from us, but you’ll also see added benefits such as the ability to sell your watch to Crown & Caliber and receive HODINKEE shop credit. And you can even insure your watch through HODINKEE Insurance. ​We have additional plans for the long term, and we’ll continue to keep you updated on the ways we’re working together to make the watch world better. We’re so excited about what the future holds for today’s watch enthusiasts.
