The Watch of Pope Benedict XVI

This morning Pope Benedict XVI, born Joseph Ratzinger, announced that he would be resigning as Pope of the Catholic Church at the end of the month, on February 28th. He is the first pope to resign since 1415. His reasons were “because of advanced age.” If you watch the video below of the Pope’s announcement at the Vatican, you will notice a watch on his wrist. The Pope has often been spotted wearing a watch and many people believed it to be a Patek Philippe Calatrava. However, that is not accurate. The brand is actually called “Erhard Junghans Tempus Automatic.” Volker Kauder, who presides over the parliamentary group formed by the party CDU/CSU, presented the Pope with this watch.
